W4XI DMR Repeater

Programming the W4XI DMR Repeater Information

First, you need a DMR ID – get it at radioid.net – this will be your “Radio ID” when you program the radio.

Receive Frequency: 443.825
Transmit Frequency: 448.825 (+5 MHz offset)
Color Code (CC): 1

For Transmit Admit, set “Color Code Free” – this will have different names in different radio programming software, but the gist of it is this: if the repeater is active due to another user, even if you don’t hear that user, your radio should refuse to transmit.

If you have a radio capable of encryption or voice inversion (scrambling), make sure they are not enabled.

For talkgroups and timeslot usage, the general rule is that timeslot 1 is for wide-area communications while timeslot 2 is for smaller area communications.

Recommended talkgroups to include:

Talkgroup Time Slot Desription Notes
1 1 W4XI LOCAL 1 Only heard on W4XI repeater
2 2 W4XI LOCAL 2 Only heard on W4XI repeater
3101 2 W4XI ALABAMA
31015 2 W4XI CNTRL AL
31013 2 W4XI ALERT K4NWS monitors during severe wx
31010 2 W4XI AL LINK
310 1 W4XI TAC 310 Linked to DMR-MARC – see note below
311 1 W4XI TAC 311 Linked to DMR-MARC – see note below
312 1 W4XI TAC 312 Linked to DMR-MARC – see note below
313 1 W4XI TAC 313
314 1 W4XI TAC 314
315 1 W4XI TAC 315
316 1 W4XI TAC 316
317 1 W4XI TAC 317
318 1 W4XI TAC 318
319 1 W4XI TAC 318

If you wish to talk with non-local folks, you may want one or more of the following:

Talkgroup Time Slot Desription Notes
3100 1 W4XI USA USA Nationwide
31604 1 W4XI REGION 4
91 1 W4XI WORLDWIDE Worldwide
92 1 W4XI Europe Europe
93 1 W4XI NA North America

There are lots of others; for a full list, see the Brandmeister TalkGroups page. Keep in mind that all of those should use timeslot 1.

TAC 310, 311, and 312 are bridged among different networks through DMRX so that communications between different networks are possible. Please allow time between each transmission to allow others to also use the talk groups. When a users on a cbridge activate a talkgroup, they will not hear anything until the next transmission starts. We are a guest on these talk groups. TAC 310 – 312 should NOT be used as a primary talk groups by anyone! If you wish to have longer conversations, please use TAC 313-319.

The only “on all the time” talkgroups on the W4XI repeater are 1, 2, 3101, 31013, and 31015. Others are what’s known as “dynamic” talkgroups; these are temporarily activated with a PTT press and automatically deactivate after 15 minutes of inactivity.

There are also some “standard” frequencies for simplex use on DMR:
